Rebels remain undefeated
After the activity in the transfer market this week, Rebels went into games 3 & 4 able to play 3 line hockey for the 1st time in almost 4 years. With Rik Carter unavailable, only Bob Baxter and Darren Smethurst made their debuts.
The 1st game of the day was billed as being Rebels toughest game so far, against 3rd placed and so far undefeated Sheffield Stampede. Baxter wasted no time making an impression, assisting the 1st goal of the game for Ash Cini. Darren Smethurst also slotted well into the "Oldham Avalanche" line with Leigh Hudson, Wes "Mac Daddy" McKeever and Anthony Reeves
After a tight first 10 minutes and the score at 1-1, Rebels upped it a gear and hit 4 unanswered goals to go into the 2nd period at 5-1. However Stampede scored early to show they weren't going without a fight. It was however Rebels who stepped up their game again hitting 2 more goals before Stampede hit a late consolation goal, to give Rebels a 7-3 victory. Captain Matt Watts also became the first player in Rebels history to hit the 100 point mark, and extend his lead at the top of the all time stats.
Next up were 11th placed Nottingham Titans. Rebels wasted no time in putting this one to bed, by scoring in the first minute, and racing into a 7-0 lead by the end of the 1st, with all 3 lines contributing on the score sheet.
